Walls of Ston

In 1358. Dubrovnik acquired Pelješac and erected a monumental defensive system, the largest fortification and urban achievements in Europe at the time. Dubrovnik invested huge sums of money and employed the following buiders: Mihač and district Bunić among the first local designers: the Italians Onofrio from Naplesi and Bernandin from Parma, the French Olivier and the Florentinei Michelozzo, and stone masters Juraj Dalmatinac and Paskoje Miličević from Dalmatia.

History and culture

It is easy to spent a week walking around old city of Ston and discover it's beauty behind every corner. From Kastio, the old tower that dominates the city of Ston, to the Ston walls which can take you to city of Mali Ston that is situated on the other side of the small hill. Ston history is well preserved and exhibited in Lapidarium, the museum situated in the main street. If you feel thirsty, the old fountain will serve the ice cold water to every passerby.

The Dalmatian coast has a very long history of mariculture. Traces of primitive oyster farming-petrified oak branches with attached oyster shells-were noted by Roman chroniclers. The first written documents date from the time of the Dubrovnik Republic. Records from the 17th Century provide details on the collection and sale of oysters.
Producing and growing winw,is a over 100 years old tradition on Pelješac. Carefuly chosen soil and position are of the crucial importance for good red wine.

If you feel the urge to ride a little faster because you have already become acquainted with a particular area,
or if you wish to hurry in order to linger somewhere else, 
simply pedal a little faster and you will soon leave all the pedestrians behind. By bike you can ride from Ston to Broce and Kobaš or to the beautiful bay Marčuleta. With beautiful scenery of the sea, rocks, forests and untouched nature of this bicycle route will not leave you indifferent.

It is a special pleasure to experience the so-called Malostonski bay from the sea. The beautifully clear sea, unsurpassed oysters fields and the old city of Mali Ston with it's ancient walls in the distance will satisfy even the most challenging observers. Whether you are a professional athlete or just a weekend warrior, a kayak excursion  will not leave you indifferent. By the way, you can try oysters and local wine, swim and dive in the beautiful clear sea and bring with you home one a totally unusual experience.

HIKING

While hiking, mountain climbing or simply walking, we derive the maximum pleasure from nature and its endless beauties.
We can set our own pace. When something interests us on an excursion, we can stop wherever we like - at a clearing or beach, forest or belvedere, and remain as long as we like.
In the area of Ston you can walk on the citywalls around town Ston (1km) or from Ston to Mali Ston (1km200m).
Also you have nice pathroad from Ston to village Broce near the sea.In the future, we hope so very soon
you will walk on the Napoleon road from Ston field to vineyard in Ponikve. 
​If you like challenges, there is Mount St. John in Žuljana to 470m above sea level where you will walk through nature stabbed authentic Mediterranean plants and sounds of the inhabitants of the pine forest.

Oysters and wine 
The Dalmatian coast has a very long history of mariculture. Traces of primitive oyster farming-petrified oak branches with attached oyster shells-were noted by Roman chroniclers. The first written documents date from the time of the Dubrovnik Republic. Records from the 17th Century provide details on the collection and sale of oysters. Documents from the 18th Century describe the procedure for granting oyster rearing concessions, some benefits afforded farmers, and contemporary prices. Development of modem mariculture began at the end of 19th Century with establishment of oyster cultivation companies. Perhaps the high-point of this era was the 1936 World Exposition in London: The Grand Prix and Gold Medal for oysters from Mali Ston Bay were awarded to a Dubrovnik-based company, "Bistrina-cultivation and sale of oysters and other shellfish".
Today, oysters are one of the simbols of Ston and Mali Ston. 
Every year in March, oysters fans are coming to the event called Days of Oysters to taste oysters and wine, two inseparable specifics of the Ston area...
